INSPIRED BY THE LEGENDARY LEADVILLE 100 MTB AND BACKED BY THE ALPS LINK GROUP AND THE LOCAL COMMUNITY WE ARE PROUD TO PRESENT THE 'CATTLEMEN 100 MTB OMEO'.
THE BACKROADS OF THE OMEO REGION WILL FORM THE DECOR FOR THE FIRST EDITION OF THIS INDEPENDENT MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE.
Using our international cycling experience we came up with a breathtaking route in and around the town of Omeo, a route which suits all types of riders and since cyclists don't like to 'hike a bike' we made sure the entire route is rideable ... at least if you're fit enough.
No matter how cool it is to ride a gravel bike nowadays this event is XC-MTB only! But to all the gravel hipsters out there, don't worry we'll have more events coming soon ...
When I heard about the Cattlemen 100 I knew it was going to be a great day out and a challenge. After entering I learned it was organised by Christophe Stevens, we used to race together on the cobbled roads of Belgium and France when we got chatting and he asked me to be the ambassador I jumped at the chance. I haven't ridden a mountain bike race in 25 years, but it will be a pleasure to help where I can and help regional Victoria get back on its feet after an unprecedented year. The family is also looking forward to spending the weekend up in Victoria's high country.
Come join us and challenge yourself!
PETA 'PESTA' MULLENS
I’ve always sought adventure from a very young age, being born and bred in Gippsland we have a huge appreciation of the great outdoors. I was one of five children so the bushland was a really cheap pastime, and eventually I fell in love with running up mountains and riding down them. I never dreamed of the Olympics though, I always had a lust for a different type of challenge, one that bought with it an unknown.. whether that be immersing yourself in a new town, conquering a longer distance, befriending a stranger, but something that incites a sense of bravery from overcoming fear.
This event is all of those things. The distance and the terrain alone will make it a unique event, in an area that most of us have never ridden (but have probably always wanted to)! I moved away from Gippsland about 10 years ago and since covid I haven’t been able to visit, so the Cattlemen 100 seems to be very fitting.
I’m coming home : )
